Since assuming office in 2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has recorded significant achievements that have reshaped Nigeria’s socioeconomic landscape. Here are five initiatives that have had some of the most direct impacts on our dear Taraba State
- LGA AUTONOMY
By insisting that about ₦4.5 trillion now goes directly to the grassroots across Nigeria, including all 16 Local Government Areas in Taraba State, the administration has brought governance and development much closer to the people. - STUDENT LOAN (NELFUND)
With ₦400 million disbursed to higher institutions in Taraba State, the hopes of about 92,000 applicants seeking to continue their education have been renewed. This initiative is helping to ensure that financial challenges no longer have to result in students dropping out of school. - TAX REFORM – FIRST IN 100 YEARS
The landmark tax reform harmonises taxes, protects small businesses from multiple taxation and bureaucratic extortion, and gives Taraba State greater control over its tax revenue. The reform represents a major step towards creating a more transparent, efficient and business-friendly tax system. - REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The creation of the Federal Ministry of Regional Development demonstrates Mr President’s commitment to decentralising development and ensuring that every part of Nigeria receives greater attention. The icing on the cake for Taraba State is that one of our own, Barr. Uba Maigari Ahmadu, is at the helm of affairs as the Honourable Minister of State. This is in addition to the establishment of Regional Development Commissions for all six geopolitical zones in Nigeria. - FEDERAL MINISTRY OF LIVESTOCK DEVELOPMENT
Taraba State has a landmass of 54,473 km², making it the third largest state in Nigeria, with 73.4% of its land being arable. Taraba is also the fourth most agriculturally active state in Nigeria, with the potential to become the most agriculturally productive. The state therefore stands to benefit immensely from the creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, whose activities are significantly contributing to efforts to reduce the farmer-herder crisis that has long bedevilled our dear state.
